The Columbia Diabetes Research Center (DRC) announces the availability of Pilot and Feasibility grants to support diabetes-related research at Columbia University. New awards will be funded by January 28, 2014.

Eligibility

Three types of applications will be considered:

  1. Proposals from young investigators - who have not had any prior funding through this or similar programs - to carry out preliminary studies to be used for an NIH, ADA or JDRF grant application;
  2. Proposals for innovative/high risk projects by established investigators in the field of diabetes;
  3. Proposals from established investigators, without prior funding in diabetes, who wish to undertake a diabetes related project.

 

Please note that graduate students and post-doctoral fellows are NOT eligible to apply.

Support

Applicants may request up to $50,000 per year for up to two years. A second year of funding will be based on demonstrated progress and availability of funds. The awards can be used for salary support and research expenses. Proposals will be reviewed by two outside experts.

Deadlines:

  • Letter of Intent: October 18, 2013
  • Completed application: December 2, 2013
  • Decisions made: Early 2014 for Feb. 1, 2014 start date

 

Letter of intent

Please submit a letter of intent online (click herehttp://derc.cumc.columbia.edu/pilot/pilot-grant-letter-intent) stating the applicant’s name, campus address and brief outline of the proposed research, as well as other pertinent information, such as current use of DERC facilities and current diabetes-related funding. Append an NIH-type biography: biosketch sample.
